What is a Well
Contents |
Project Description
A number of PPDM Association members expressed interest in an initiative to develop baseline definitions for the structural components of a well and the relationships between these components. Baseline definitions for life cycle stages will also be developed to help industry understand how well entities evolve over the life time of a well. These baseline definitions can be used as the basis for comparison with the specific definitions used by key industry data providers, aggregators, and consumers in the US and Canada, and eventually worldwide.
Baseline Component Definitions
The following components have been defined:
- Well
- Well Set
- Well Origin
- Wellbore
- Wellbore Segment
- Wellbore Completion
- Wellbore Contact Interval
- Wellhead Stream
- Well Reporting Stream

Mapping to PPDM 3.8
This document illustrates how the well components map into PPDM 3.8. Use of the table WELL_XREF and the column WELL.WELL_LEVEL_TYPE are essential to these mappings. Media:WIAW_PPDM38_4.pdf
Baseline Comparisons with Regulatory Agencies
Regulatory agency comparisons are being developed regularly. As they are developed and approved, they are available to members of the PPDM Association here http://www.whatisawell.org. If you are not a member of the PPDM Association, you can join http://www.ppdm.org/join/index.html
