An instrument is a legal document. Often, it represents an interest in something, as a lien that is issues against a certificate of title. It may also be a legal document that describes something, as a spacing unit instrument describes the boundaries of a spacing unit. Notifications, change of address, transfer of interest, mortgages, discharges, and other kinds of encumbrances are all instruments.
