EQUIPMENT CATALOGUES
What is an Equipment Catalogue?
Equipment catalogues contain lists of equipment at the level you might find in a product catalogue or on vendor specification lists. Information about equipment at this level relates to intended manufactured specifications.
When to use this module
Often the information that is received about equipment idenifies a make and model number, and perhaps a manufacturer. If you have only that information, use the EQUIPMENT CATALOGUE tables.
If you have information about a specific piece of equipment, such as a serial number for a specific piece of equipment, calibration specifications, commissioning information, or maintenance histories it is appropriate to use the EQUIPMENT tables.
How this module is used in the data model
In tables where information about the equipment used is important, you will find FK references from both the CAT_EQUIPMENT and the EQUIPMENT table. Populate the FK that allows you to store the information you have available.
In some cases, you may want to store information that relates generically from a kind of equipment, and specific information about the exact piece of equipment you are using. In this case, you only need to populate the FK from EQUIPMENT - that table contains the necessary reference to the catalogue.
