Congressional Legal Land Survey System

The Congressional Location system describes the location of an object in reference to the Congressional Land Survey System which forms a grid system of townships, ranges and sections. This rectilinear system is also known as Congressional, Jeffersonian, Civil or Dominion Surveys. It is the basic survey system used in the U.S. for surveying civil boundaries below the county level.
