Introduction
Spatial enabling business information provides the
ability to display and query spatial and non-spatial
data in a Geographic Information System (GIS) using
map based user interfaces. The PPDM Spatial projects
have developed a methodology to link the PPDM
relational database with the spatial functionality of
today's GIS engines and create tight integration
between the spatial data in the GIS and the
relational data in PPDM.
Linking relational data from the PPDM data model
with a GIS gives a geoscientist the ability to display
PPDM business objects on a map quickly and efficiently,
and to retrieve information about business objects in
a specified area. These business objects may be wells,
well tests, land parcels, facilities, seismic lines,
etc. A map-based browser can be used to navigate into
a specified area and display business objects and their
attribute information.
Major deliverables include a methodology to create
geometry information for all spatial business objects in
a PPDM database as well as sample scripts to create the
geometries, a series of recommendations for how to integrate
spatial data with existing data management processes and
sample data in a variety of formats.
