Teapot Dome Work Group

Project Description

Members of the PPDM Association have asked for a complete, realistic sample dataset for many years. This sample dataset would be used to help members understand how data is loaded into PPDM, what best practices are and what key business rules should be employed during a PPDM implementation. Members also need a sample dataset to help with testing applications, to demo products and services and to provide a discussion point for work groups.

This workgroup will use the publicly available Teapot Dome dataset as a sample data set. While some portions of the dataset can be easily loaded, others will be more difficult and take considerable time and effort. The implementation team intends to start with the easily loaded components and continue with more complex data sets as member interest dictates.

Various member companies have already agreed to participate in the project in specific areas that are interesting to them. See later sections for details.

Objectives and Vision

The objects of the workgroup are manifold to provide benefits to a wide array of members:

1. Provide a demonstration set that illustrates best practices for loading a PPDM database.
2. Provide a set of business rules for loading data into PPDM 3.8.
3. To illustrate data cleaning and testing practices.
4. Provide a complete set of real data that members can use for their own implementation and testing purposes.
5. Provide feedback to the Rocky Mountain Oilfield Testing Center (RMOTC) with an improved and standardized dataset, to improve their practices.

Benefits

The benefits to our membership will be manifold:

1. To help members understand how to implement PPDM using rules that are standardized across industry. Current practices, in which each company sets their own rules, are not meeting the needs of many members.
2. To provide a complete, real set of data that can be used by member companies as needed.
