Executive Summary

PPDM Association is a not-for-profit organization that develops and maintains standards for the Resource Industry. With over 100 member companies comprised of petroleum businesses, governments, data vendors, software vendors and service firms, the Association provides a roundtable process to bring experts together to build useful, business-driven standards.

The PPDM Land Modules in PPDM 3.4 – 3.7 were designed over a period of seven years by the PPDM Association Land Workgroups through a process of international cooperation and collaboration. The modules designed cover surface and mineral rights, obligations, contracts, licensing and approvals, support facilities, interest sets and financial summaries. Land modules in PPDM 3.7 are fully integrated with over 45 business modules in the PPDM relational model, and are being implemented internationally.

The Canadian Association of Petroleum Land Administration (CAPLA) was incorporated in November of 1993. CAPLA serves individuals and organizations involved in petroleum land administration. The Canadian Association of Petroleum Land Administration is comprised of a diverse range of land professionals.

CAPLA provides an environment that allows its members to meet the challenges ahead. Its main goals are to bring together the different personnel involved in the land administration function, establish standards of excellence, open lines of communication and gain recognition for the land administration discipline within industry.

Project Objectives

Valuable process improvements will be realized through the integration of land management and financial information. The PPDM Association, working collaboratively with CAPLA, will develop data management mechanisms that will employ standards to support processes such as royalty management, obligation management (financial and work) and AFE management. While this project does not propose that a financial system should be developed, it does recommend that processes and practices to work collaboratively with these systems should be defined.
