Mineable Oil Sands Work Group
Project Description
Members are interested in developing a data model to describe oil sands operations from pre-mining analysis, through mine operations, extraction and upgrading operations and reclamation in post-mining operations. PPDM 3.8 contains many modules that are applicable to oil sands operations; others will be created as the workgroup proceeds.
Current plans are to develop this data model very quickly, bringing the work from design to conceptual and logical modeling through to physical model in less than two years. To achieve this, early high level work will prepare the ground for a series of concurrent technical detail groups. Each of the detail groups will flesh out the model in specific areas.
Objectives and Vision
To create an oil sands data model that is applicable to oil sands mining operations world-wide, and that positions the data model for growth into other energy mining operations, such as coal mining.
Benefits
At this time, standards for Oil Sands operations do not exist, making data sharing amongst partners complex and time consuming. A business driven model can serve as the foundation for data management by regulators, operators and vendors using a common framework.
