Data Management Work Group

Contribute to the Data Management Work Group Forum.

Executive summary

As PPDM implementations become widespread and diverse, members companies require increased support and data and database management capabilities. Integrating management strategies with the PPDM model make sense, as there are many ways to allow the model to manage itself efficiently and effectively.

The PPDM Data Management Workgroup will investigate issues raised by industry and develop recommendations for best practices, enrich the data model and deliverables and provide a forum for discussion and process improvements.

Status

This work group has created a charter document and has begun work. If you would like to participate, please contact the PPDM Association at info@ppdm.org.

Benefits

  1. Collaborative projects allow industry experts to contribute their knowledge and expertise in a neutral, non-competitive environment. The work that has been done by various work groups since 1989 will provide the foundation for this work.
  2. The PPDM meta model supports important data management requirements. Improvements to this module will better support today's business needs.
  3. Best practice recommendations will move industry towards consistency in how PPDM data models are managed.
  4. Auditing and archival practices will help ensure compliance with regulatory specifications, such as Sarbanes-Oxley, Petroleum (Submerged Lands) (Data Management) Regulations 2004, PIPEDA, FOIP etc.

Scope

The potential scope for a PPDM data management work group or project could be enormous. While the final scope for the project will be set during the kick off meetings, the following areas have been put forward for consideration:

  1. Recommendations to the modeling committee have been deferred to this workgroup
  2. Complete review of the meta model and its functions
  3. Review of the model for conformance to regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley and PIPEDA
  4. Development of best practices recommendations for data management in PPDM
  5. Development of best practices recommendations for data base administration in PPDM
