Acquisition & Divestment

Introduction

Industry-sponsored initiatives like A & D project are formed by Industry and the PPDM Association to create specific standards, products and methodologies related to XML Schema. Projects are sponsored by Industry and directed by a steering committee nominated from the sponsor companies.

Project Description

In Phase I of this project, the PPDM Association has developed a standard data exchange format for transferring non-confidential A&D data that is typically contained within an initial offering memorandum. Several A&D companies are actively seeking to implement this standard to help streamline their everyday business processes.

With the support of industry, the Association plans to build upon the momentum created by the first phase of the A&D Project by initiating a second phase of the project aimed at defining a more comprehensive set of XML standards. The Phase II development will be geared towards transferring detailed confidential A&D data. Initial levels of support for Phase II of the project have been high. The standard is based on XML technologies and build upon the results of other data exchange standards created by the PPDM Association.

Acquisition and Divestment (A&D) processes necessitate the creation and repeated transfer of data between sellers, brokers and buyers. Therefore, the importance of maintaining data integrity and facilitating easy access to relevant data items is crucial. A standardized format for A&D data will decrease the costs associated with maintaining multiple file formats, facilitate the exchange of data between companies, and ensure the validity and integrity of the data during transactions.

Acquisitions and Divestitures Project Benefits

Outcomes from this project will include improved capability between E&P companies, engineering firms and brokers. Users will have more options and greater flexibility for displaying and manipulating information presented in these memorandums.

Information presented in these standardized formats may be integrated with additional supporting products or data provided by software vendors. Overall, the project is intended to allow brokers and E&P companies to save money by simplifying and improving the way conduct business with each other.
