The E&P business is very complex; managing data properly requires that data be understood and evaluated through business experts and expert knowledge systems. Business rules are data methods, definitions and procedures (data rules) which ensure that E&P data is trustworthy and consistent. Thousands of business rules typically govern the data management operations of most E&P companies; unfortunately, these rules are rarely documented or applied consistently, making data management and integration a very difficult process.
PPDM will focus on the business rules that are important to data management, including data management “best practices”, data quality, transactions and transformations. An environment and infrastructure will be created that can be used to submit and validate business rules, or to extract industry rules that are applicable to a company.
