PPDM Calgary Data Management Conference

Conference Summary

The annual fall PPDM Association Data Management Conference was held on November 2nd and 3rd, 2004 in Calgary. Nearly 100 participants enjoyed two days of presentations by a host of international experts. In addition, four half-day sessions were held to discuss the Association’s new work groups and ongoing projects.

Participants were treated to presentations by nineteen companies and organizations covering a range of data and information management topics. Presentations by representatives from Geological Survey of Canada, Nexen, Inc., Petrel Robertson Consulting Ltd., Rakhit Petroleum Consulting and Corvelle Management Consultants examined geo-science and spatial E&P data issues. Presentations given by the PPDM Association, POSC, and Landmark Graphics focused on implementing XML standards. Industry representatives from Andromeda Computer Systems, BJ Services Company Canada, dataMatters Consulting Ltd., Oilware, Inc., Petris Technology, Talisman Energy, Online Business Systems, Rapid Technology Corporation, SD Processes Inc. and the PPDM Association provided presentations on various implementations of PPDM and related issues data management issues. Finally, Microsoft Canada provided a two part talk on threat modeling. The presentations are available on the PPDM Website in PDF format.

The PPDM Association is constantly striving to develop products that the membership find valuable. Several action items arose from suggestions by members that attended the Fall Conference:

  1. The PPDM Association will establish an area on the PPDM Website where members can contribute to lists of values (reference lists) and/or provide links to reference lists currently published by other organizations
  2. The Association will solicit suggestions from the members and develop enhanced self-serve capabilities on the Website featuring a new Member Profiles Section
  3. The Association will accelerate and enhance the discussion forum capabilities
  4. The Association will explore the potential interest and support within the industry and membership for creating a Heavy Oil Work Group.
