In response to overwhelming industry demand, the PPDM Association has initiated the development of online training courses. We are very excited about this new direction, and the opportunity to offer our global members access to much-needed foundational content related to the petroleum industry.
We are pleased to announce the recent launch of our first online course: U.S. Land Survey Systems. This course will be followed by U.S. Land Well Locating, expected to be released in June 2012.
There are few topics more important than the proper understanding of land measurements and well locations, so we are pleased to announce a new online course offering - The United States Land Survey Systems.
The U.S. Land Survey System course teaches the basics of the land survey systems used in the U.S.- Congressional, Metes and Bounds, and the system used in the federal offshore waters.
The course shows the basics of each survey system using real-world examples including the differences between Metes and Bounds survey system used in the eastern U.S. compared with how Metes and Bounds is used in Texas. The course shows many examples of the Congressional (Township-Range) system, including some of the differences in how this system was first applied in Ohio.
The course is offered online so you can complete the course at your own pace. The US Land Survey Systems course includes a final exam to validate that participants have a good understanding of the material.
This introductory course is designed for Data Management and Records Management personnel that work with U.S. well location information and land data. (Note: This course focuses on the land survey systems and is not a primer on how to be a land surveyor.)
The material is especially important for new staff or those who have not had course work on U.S. Land systems. The course is also designed for staff who have worked in one area, such as Texas or Congressional states (such as Colorado, Wyoming, Oklahoma), and are now working areas in eastern states such as Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia.
Other E&P industry professionals such as geologists and engineers who are new to our industry or new to working the United States will also find this course beneficial.
The course will provide important background information for support staff for geologists and engineers.
