PPDM V3.6 Upstream Petroleum Data Model ReleasedCalgary, Canada, December 14, 2001 – The Public Petroleum Data Model (PPDM) Association announced today the release of its Version 3.6 upstream petroleum data model to membership organizations worldwide. The release adds significant enhancements to the seismic and information / product management modules while incorporating substantial improvements to the stratigraphy module. "This release of the Data Model illustrates the power of international collaborative efforts for the development of standards for the E&P Industry. Our many face to face meetings were supplemented by chat room and list server discussions, allowing experts from all around the world to participate in this project. Member participation, both intellectual and financial, has been overwhelming, further cementing the fact that the Association truly delivers "the business driven standard", says Scott Beaugrand, the Association’s CEO. Revisions to the seismic module allow all types of seismic data to be supported and fully described from acquisition through processing and interpretation. Transactions and brokerage business requirements allow legal and administrative information about seismic purchases and leases to be captured in the data model. Enhancements to the information and product management module support tight integration with products throughout the seismic life cycle. Spatial enabling, first provided in PPDM Version 3.5, continues to be supported in Version 3.6. Electronic information management is supplemented in version 3.6, allowing service companies to continue using the data model as new technology is adopted to manage seismic field and processed data. Data encryption, error tracking and tape copying are fully supported in PPDM Version 3.6. Entitlements to data, information and products are described in a new Entitlements module that can be used to describe what rights you have obtained. Integrated Cost Center summaries and pointers allow users to integrate their business and financial databases effectively. Work orders and projects have been enhanced to support service companies who use the PPDM model to support their business practices. Through the collaborative Work Group process, the new release encapsulates 18 months of intense model development and testing with deliverables that include substantial additions to technical data definitions, release documentation and diagrams, reference guides, sample data sets, data mappings and spatially enabling support. The PPDM Association is an international non-profit organization through which members worldwide cooperate to develop standards as a foundation for managing information as an essential asset in the global resource business. Representing over 100 energy companies, vendors, and regulatory agencies worldwide, the Association delivers a vendor-independent standard data model and data exchange schemas. The Association has headquarters in Calgary and an office in Houston. Data exchange, software applications and other services based on the PPDM model have reduced user and supplier costs and improved the effectiveness of information technology. The Association continues to expand the model and data exchange functions to encompass other key global resource business processes.
