PPDM Association Delivers Results from Data Exchange Initiative PilotAugust 3, 2001 -- The Public Petroleum Data Model Association announced today the release of results from its Data Exchange Initiative Pilot. Specifically, this initiative addresses the tremendous need for simple and open standards for exchanging data over the Internet. The pilot itself consisted of two distinctive phases:
As well as the Data Exchange Architecture Documentation, results of the pilot include a collection of 4 schemas that define the content and structure of the Business Associate transaction in XML. The pilot also includes 3 supporting (also called reference) schemas that contain element definitions that are common and designed to be reusable. Support schemas are used to help validate the contents of an XML document. Through the continuation of the PPDM Data Exchange Initiative, the Association will provide a simple and inexpensive solution to what previously has been a complex and expensive proposition. The Association will provide a publicly available data exchange standard that is based on W3C XML Schema. The Association will also provide value-added samples based on open source technologies such as Extensible Markup Language, JAVA, and Simple Object Access Protocol. The PPDM Association is an international non-profit organization through which members worldwide cooperate to develop standards as a foundation for managing information as an essential asset in the global resource business. Representing over 100 oil and gas companies, vendors, and regulatory agencies worldwide, the Association delivers a vendor-independent standard data model and data exchange schemas. The Association has headquarters in Calgary and an office in Houston. Data exchange, software applications and other services based on the PPDM model have reduced user and supplier costs and improved the effectiveness of information technology. The Association continues to expand the model and data exchange functions to encompass other key global resource business processes.
