Formed in 1989 and incorporated in Calgary, AB Canada in 1991, the PPDM Association is a not-for-profit organization with an international membership base of approximately 100 members. Members include a broad range of energy companies, government agencies, software application and data vendors, and service companies.
The low membership fee encourages a large number of companies involved in the worldwide energy arena to participate in the development of business driven standards.
The members and consultants truly work towards developing ... business driven standards ... through the non-profit organization which members world-wide cooperate to develop standards as a foundation for managing information as an essential asset in the global resource business.
The three key mandates of the Association are:

develop a standard data model that represents data and data relationships
consistently and simplifies database creation and maintenance -
develop and support data transactions through XML schemas and
methodologies which meet the business requirements of industry - along with other standards organizations develop, distribute
and maintain
standard lists of reference values
Working experts in each of the business topics are invited to
participate
in an open process to prioritize and create these integrated
deliverables.
Through this process each member is encouraged to be an
active participant
in the Association's evolution.
