Where it began: Standards for Data Management

We are now known as The Professional Petroleum Data Management Association – a driving force behind the creation of worldwide oil and gas data management standards and provider of :

  • Education and Training
  • Baseline Definitions – ‘What is a Well?’, 'What is Well Status?'
  • Data Quality Rules

Our organization got its start nearly twenty years ago when, recognizing the need for petroleum data standards, a group of petroleum industry players and data experts joined forces in 1991 to create the Public Petroleum Data Model Association. As a membership-driven, not-for-profit organization, the PPDM Association has been a catalyst for the development of worldwide, business-driven standards for the collection and exchange of petroleum data.

Now, nearly 20 years later, the PPDM Association data model – developed collaboratively by the petroleum industry and for the petroleum industry – is the de-facto choice for an industry that increasingly recognizes the value of standards-based solutions and effective data management.
